In dubio pro fisco explores the silent tension between law, taxation and institutions through a restrained abstract landscape. The textured white upper section symbolises legal order, clarity and the formal structure of jurisprudence. The muted blue-grey middle layer reflects ambiguity, interpretation and administrative discretion. The deep green foundation represents the economic ground on which both state and society depend — stable, but opaque. Delicate gold accents mark the fragile boundary where public interest, fiscal power and individual rights intersect. It invites the viewer to reflect on modern tax systems and connected certainty and control within a given legal framework.
This artwork forms part of a collaborative series between ECONOMICS.ATELIER | Dr. Gruner and GruBo Recht.Steuern.Nachfolge.
The collaboration explores the intersection of economic thought, artistic expression, and the practical realities of legal work. The painting is permanently exhibited in the premises of GruBo Recht.Steuern.Nachfolge. in Essen, Germany, where they become part of the spatial and intellectual atmosphere of the office.

In dubio pro reo reflects the fundamental principle of the rule of law that doubt must always favour the accused. The sharp division between the calm sandy surface and the heavily textured white structure symbolises the fragile boundary between individual freedom and institutional judgement. The work invites the viewer to consider justice not as absolute certainty, but as a careful balance between power, doubt and human dignity.

ART 05. Banana Export.
Often overlooked, but they are globally essential. It is not too provocative to state that the banana is one of the world’s quiet powerhouses. Starting from plantation fields to supermarkets, it fuels children, adults and elderly people, thus entire economies. This piece reflects the hidden network behind a simple fruit. Farmers who sustain their families through export. Logistics that carry it across continents and the everyday productivity it enables in importing countries. Pretty fast impact for a fruit, isn’t it? A quite tribute to the banana.

ART 04. New World (Dis)Order.
A reflection of growing chaos in the global system. Sharp neon disruptions cut through the dark surface, echoing economic shocks, geopolitical tensions and the volatility of contemporary markets. The composition mirrors a moment in which established structures appear increasingly fragile and unstable. One might ask: New World Order? The answer seems uncertain — perhaps there is no order at all. Yet even against a dark background, hope and trust in a brighter, more colourful future persist.

ART 03. From Gold to Bitcoin.
Gold - heavy symbol of permanence. Scarce, physical, no alchemy possible. A value in uncertain times. Yet, the architecture of the global economy is becoming digital and with it the nature of trust might change - towards Bitcoin? Here, scarcity rather stems from code. Are we witnessing a shift in trust from physical assets to decentralised systems? Whether temporary speculation or the new era of monetary paradigm remains open.

ART 02. City of London.
Cloudy day, rain. The financial district of London. The economic power of institutions, banks and advisors is woven into the uniform movement of people crossing the city. Golden umbrellas hint at accumulated wealth. Greyish clothes appear as a quiet agreement with the existing system. Is it an absence of spirit or the latent desire to fit into these structures?

ART 01. Green transition is not a clean cut.
Transformation towards green economy is linked to transition risks. Fossil-based structures (black) form the backbone of global economies. Still, they are dominating the majority of growth and development. Sustainability (green) becomes visible as fragments but not hegemonic, thus not leading. Transition is not clean, but linked to conflicts (blue), where the final dominant result is not clear, yet. Old structures do not simply disappear but they are painted over.
